Gun giveaway to be held Saturday

The Maugansville Goodwill Fire Co. will hold its third annual gun giveaway Saturday at the Order of Red Men at 16129 Lappans Road in Williamsport.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Food will be available from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Beer will be served from noon to 5 p.m. You must buy a band for $5 to drink beer. The meal will include roast beef sandwich and other items. Tickets are sponsored by Karl Pile Septic Service.

You must be at least 18 years old to purchase tickets and to enter the grounds. Ticket stub and ID will be required. No outside coolers will be allowed.

Tickets cost $20 for singles or $30 for couples.

Golf tournament to benefit Little League

Maugansville Little League will hold a golf tournament Saturday, Oct. 10, at Beaver Creek Country Club.


All proceeds will benefit Maugansville Little League. The format is a four-man scramble. The event costs $60, which includes dinner.

Registration will be at noon and the shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. Dinner and awards will be at 6 p.m.

There will be a $5,000 putting contest, closest to the pin award and door prizes. The registration deadline is Saturday.

The tournament is open to the first 27 foursomes registered.

Club meeting

The Maugansville Senior Friendship Club will meet Tuesday at Tops Chinese Buffet in the North Village Shopping Center on Longmeadow Road.

A Dutch treat lunch will be served at noon, followed by the meeting. The meeting will include a discussion and display of hobbies. All visitors are welcome, and after three meetings you will be asked to become a member. For more information, call Dorothy Smith at 301-745-6355.

Book fair under way

A scholastic book fair will be held at Maugansville Elementary School today (half day of school - open from 7:45 a.m. to noon) and will continue through Friday, Oct. 9. The book fair will be open next week from 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be an ice cream social Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Spaghetti dinner set for Oct. 10

The Maugansville Ruritan Club will host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Maugansville fire hall from 3 to 7 p.m.

The menu includes spaghetti, tossed salad, Italian bread and a beverage.

Tickets cost $6 for those 13 and older and $3 for those ages 6 to 12. Those ages 5 and younger eat free. Baked goods will also be available. Proceeds benefit the Maugansville fire department.

Maugansville Elementary School's Wolfgang Candy fundraiser is under way.

Candy, wrapping paper, candles, cheeses, bologna, sugar-free candy, cookies and many other items are for sale.

Orders can also be placed online at, anytime during the year.

The school will receive credit for your order and the order will be shipped directly to your house.

Maugansville school's account number is WA1031. Orders and money are due by Oct. 14 and will be available for pickup at the school Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Basketball signups

Registration for the Hagerstown Junior Basketball League will be held Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti High School. All new players and returning players must register and have proof of age or birth certificate. This league is for all Washington County students in grades four to eight.

Pet blessing

The annual pet blessing will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, Hagerstown.

Pastor Linda Alessandri will provide the blessing and treats will be available. There will also be a photo opportunity.
