Two killed in crash on Md. 17 near Brunswick

BRUNSWICK, Md. -- Two people from Frederick, Md., were killed Wednesday night in the crash of a pickup truck on Md. 17 near Brunswick, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

Preston Eugene Mossburg Jr., 78, and Evelyn Virginia Mossburg, 73, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which took place at about 10:43 p.m., police said.

The investigation revealed that Preston Mossburg was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Md. 17 near Rosemont Drive when the truck left the roadway and struck a sign on the southbound shoulder, the release said.

The truck continued northbound on the southbound shoulder and struck a guardrail, then crossed both lanes of travel, struck a sign on the northbound shoulder and then continued up an embankment and into a cornfield. It overturned several times in the cornfield and came to rest on its roof on Rosemont Drive, the release said.

Northbound Md. 17 was closed for approximately three hours for the investigation.
