Around Funkstown

Big weekend ahead

It's a big week with homecoming and all of the fun activities planned at South Hagerstown High School.

I wanted to make sure that all parents were aware that Friday is an early dismissal - 2 1/2 hours, to be exact. So make sure you have planned accordingly. See you at the game Friday night.

Open house at fire station

Saturday, Oct. 10, should be a big day for the firetruck enthusiasts in your family. The Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co. will open its station to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be firetruck rides, and loads of information and demonstrations.

Kids even will get to try their hands at using a fire hose. Stop by and see what happens at the fire hall, and make sure to say thanks to the men and women who volunteer to keep us safe.

Veterans memorial

Calling all veterans! The war memorial in Funkstown is not quite complete. As beautiful as it is, still missing are some names of those who served our country.

All veterans who served in the military during the Korean War and lived in Funkstown should call Jay Everly at 301-797-1522.

If you are a veteran who served in the military during the Vietnam War and resided in Funkstown, you should call Bill Osborne at 301-991-2039.

Please help get the names of those who served so Funkstown can honor them.
