Soccer equipment swap held in Boonsboro area

September 28, 2009

Barbara Wetzel of the Boonsboro Recycling Task Force reports that the recent soccer swap was a success. The group recently teamed up with the American Youth Soccer Organization for a gently used equipment swap.

More than 30 players were outfitted with gently used cleats during the swap, and 20 children received soccer balls, while several others received shinguards, soccer socks and shorts.

Paul Kadin, assistant regional commissioner for AYSO, remarked with fellow swappers that "some cleats came with experience."

Participants either traded equipment or made a $2 donation to purchase equipment. Proceeds from any sales will go to AYSO. Donated cleats that were not claimed by new owners will be sent to underprivileged children. AYSO has been serving the Boonsboro area since 1985, according to Kadin, who is in the process of compiling a history of the youth soccer organization in Boonsboro.
