Showcase of Marching Bands set for Oct. 13

The Washington County Board of Education will present the 33rd annual Showcase of Marching Bands on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. at South Hagerstown High School Stadium.

Gates will open at 6:15 p.m.

The showcase will feature:

  • North Hagerstown High School Hub Band (2009 host band)

  • Smithsburg High School Leopard Band

  • South Hagerstown High School Rebel Band

  • Williamsport High School Blue Band

  • Hancock High School Panther Band

  • Clear Spring High School Blazer Band

  • Boonsboro High School Warrior Band

    Nonrefundable ticket donation is $4 in advance and $5 at the gate. Senior Citizen Gold Cards will be honored.

    The rain date is Tuesday, Oct. 20.

    WWII Weekend planned in Williamsport

    WILLIAMSPORT -- A WWII Weekend will be held Oct. 9 to 11 at the Springfield Farm in Williamsport.

    The event will include displays, re-enactors, equipment, a Fairchild Aircraft flyover (if weather permits), speakers and a G.I. Joe display especially for children.


The event begins Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. with a showing of the movie "Casablanca" in the Springfield Farm Barn. A 1942 newsreel, cartoons and a Three Stooges short also will be shown. Tickets cost 50 cents and will be available at the door.

Oct. 10 events being with a pancake breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m., followed by a Salute to Soldiers Parade at 11 a.m.

A patriotic concert by Blue & Gray Men's Chorus will be at 1:30 p.m. in the barn, followed at 2:30 p.m. by a recognition ceremony to honor all who served in the military. A USO dance with Jump Alley will cap off the event at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $5 at the door.

On Oct. 11, there will be a WWII worship service with Bob Hundertmark at 10:30 a.m. A WWII model airplane contest will be held at 1 p.m. and a patriotic concert by the Williamsport Community Band will begin at 2 p.m. in the barn.
