FREDERICK, Md. -- Mrs. Elva Mae "Fogle" Lewis, 85, of Frederick, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at her daughter's home. She was the wife of the late William Harvey Lewis.

Born July 18, 1924, in Le Gore, Md., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Fitz Fogle.

Mrs. Lewis was the longest-living member of The Salvation Army in Frederick County. She dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting and quilting.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by her children, Julia Anne Summers of Mercersburg, Pa., Mary Ellen Nails of Hagerstown and William H. Lewis Jr., all of Frederick, Betty Jane Bussard of Middletown, Md., Margaret Susan Poole Mann of Gardners, Pa., and Helen Elizabeth Herbert Heerd of Frederick; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Elizabeth Fauver of Taneytown, Md., and Betty Jane Fogle, Dorothy Hagen and Charlotte Usilton, all of Frederick. Many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mayetta Grace Williams; two brothers, Paul and Alton Fogle; and three sisters, Ella Grace Fogle, Ruth Ann Fogle and Margaret Oden.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Monday, Sept. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., where services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. with Capt. Satterlee officiating.

Interment in Garfield United Methodist Church Cemetery.
