Convoy of Hope

The Hagerstown Convoy of Hope is Saturday, Sept. 26, at Hagerstown Fairgrounds, 351 N. Cleveland Ave., Hagerstown.

The event will feature a job and health fair, family photos, live entertainment, food and prizes. All events are free.

YMCA activities

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - YMCA classes will lead parents with walking age toddlers up to 30 months through songs, games and gross motor skill activities. One or both parents must attend the class with their child. Classes run from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesdays and 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, Oct. 3, Oct. 17 and Oct. 24.

Cost for the seven-week Tuesday session is $30 for nonmembers, and $7 for members.

Cost for the Saturday sessions is $5 per visit for nonmembers, and $2 per visit for members.

Pickle-Ball, a game that combines tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, is offered for adults older than 50 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays, at the YMCA. Classes cost $2 for nonmembers; members may play for free. Instruction and playtime for families is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, Sept. 26, Oct. 31, and Nov. 21. The cost is $10 per family for nonmembers; free to YMCA members.

Activities for kids at Townfest

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Free games will be available at the Kid's Corner tent during Mercersburg Townfest, Saturday, Sept. 26. Vendors will include sand art, pony rides, ice cream, and a children's author. Entertainment includes James Buchanan High School band at 10:30 a.m.; James Buchanan Middle School band at 11 a.m.; Step by Step Dance Studio at 11:30 a.m.; and Sing and Play string instruments at 12:30 p.m.

Wellness expo

Wellness Expo 2009 will be at at the Knott Athletic Center at Mount St. Mary's University from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. Activities include a basketball tournament, seated massages, a stress management seminar, sample aquatic exercise classes, fitness classes, a self- defense seminar, a Jiu Jitsu demonstration, children's activities, door prizes, and will feature local vendors offering free information and products. Flu shots will be administered by Dr. Bonita Portier.

Art, writing contest

Washington County students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to participate in the art and creative writing contest for the third annual Celebration of International Conflict Resolution Day.

Entries for the art contest must be of a flag to display at home or school. The flag can include messages or designs that help others understand what peace means to you. Flags can be made of any type of material, including paper, at least 8.5 inches by 11 inches and no larger than 18 inches by 24 inches.

Creative writing contest entries should explain what peace means to you and how to make peace at home, at school, in the community, or in the world.

First, second, and third-place prizes will be awarded based on grade levels.

Entry deadline is Friday, Oct. 2.
