Vendors sought



MYERSVILLE, Md. - Wolfsville Ruritan Club is seeking vendors for its 37th annual Catoctin Antique Gas Engine Show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, and Sunday, Oct. 4, at Wolfsville Ruritan Community Park, 12708 Brandenburg Hollow Road.

The show will feature antique tractors, hit and miss engines, farm machinery, cars, trucks, a working saw mill, flea markets and craft boths. Food will be sold. Admission is free. Proceeds from the event will be used for community activities and park maintenance. The park is handicapp accessible.

Chili cook-off sign-up



WAYNESBORO, Pa. -Competition is heating up for the second annual chili cook-off, held in conjunction with Waynesboro's fifth annual Market Day scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. Sponsored by Mainstreet Waynesboro Inc., the event features craft vendors, food, live music and entertainment, activities for children and sidewalk sales.

The cook-off entry fee is $10 and the deadline to enter is Wednesday, Sept. 30. Call Vigil at 717-655-5347 for more information.

During the Market Day event, the chili cook-off will be set up adjacent to M&T Bank on Waynesboro's Centre Square. From noon to 2 p.m., visitors can sample chili entries for a nominal fee, and vote for their favorite.

A panel of "celebrity" judges will choose winners in four categories: Judge's choice, boldest, best, and most unique. The chili with the most votes from visitors will win consumer's choice. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m.




Holiday card drive



The 2009 Holiday Card Drive for local troops who are serving in the Middle East will begin Thursday, Oct. 1, and run through Friday, Nov. 20.

Follow these guidelines when sending your greetings:

  • Each card may be read by many service members; cards may be homemade or store bought; do not put cards in envelopes - no postage is needed; all cards and messages should be appropriate; cards will be screened for security/sensitivity issues; sign all cards; may include messages of well wishes/support; may request a pen-pal; may make arrangements for possible pick-up (local schools and churches).

    Born Learning Fest seeks volunteers



    Volunteers are being sought to help with the Born Learning Fest for Families with Young Children, ages birth to 5-years-old.

    The festival is scheduled for 10 a.m. to2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at University Plaza Park, 32 W. Washington St. Hagerstown. Call Katie Yoder at 240-313-2095.
