HAGERSTOWN -- David Leroy Hawbaker Sr., 76, of 17128 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown, Md., died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at his home.

Born March 15, 1933, in Clear Spring, Md., to the late Rush Sr. and Mary Bryan Hawbaker.

He was employed by Ewing Oil for 15 years until retiring. He was previously employed as a driver with Coca-Cola Bottling of Hagerstown, Md., for 21 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War.

He was a member of Potomac Fish & Game Club of Williamsport, Md., and Potomac Post No. 202 American Legion, Williamsport, Md.

Survivors include wife, Margaret Walters Hawbaker, married for 57 years, of Hagerstown, Md.; stepmother, Annie Hawbaker of Clear Spring, Md.; daughter, Sharon Clark and her husband Charles of Clear Spring, Md.; daughter, Sandra Frost and her husband John of Williamsport, Md.; daughter, Linda Hawbaker and her friend Rosie Zelke of Hagerstown, Md.; daughter, Brenda Nycum of Hagerstown, Md.; daughter, Dana Kitchen and her husband Mark of Hagerstown, Md.; son, Dennis Hawbaker and wife Pat of Williamsport, Md.; son, Michael Hawbaker and his friend Kim Smith of Hagerstown, Md.; son, David Hawbaker Jr. of Hagerstown, Md.; sister, Martha Hundly of Tennessee; sister, Barbara Ramsey of Hagerstown, Md.; sister Nancy Hawbaker of Williamsport, Md.; brother, Frederick Hawbaker of Hagerstown, Md.; brother, Charles Hawbaker of Hagerstown, Md.; brother, Richard Hawbaker of Clear Spring, Md.; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.


He was predeceased by two sisters, Mildred Harbaugh and Dorothy Peddicord, and one brother, Rush Hawbaker Jr.

The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conocheague St., Williamsport, Md., on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 1 p.m. Thursday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md., on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at 2 p.m. with Chaplain Beth Johns officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, Md. Military graveside services will be provided by AMVETS Post No. 10 and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown, Md.
