Serafini files to keep delegate seat

September 24, 2009

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- Andrew A. Serafini has filed to run in the 2010 state delegate election.

Serafini, a Republican who lives near Hagerstown, currently represents Subdistrict 2A, which includes Smithsburg, Maugansville, Halfway and Williamsport.

He was appointed to the seat in March 2008.

Robert A. McKee, the previous 2A delegate, resigned in February 2008 as authorities investigated an allegation that he possessed child pornography. McKee was convicted and sentenced to 37 months in a federal prison.

Serafini was one of 19 people who applied to the Washington County Republican Central Committee, which made a recommendation to Gov. Martin O'Malley on the replacement.

Serafini filed to run for the 2A seat Monday. No one else had filed as of Thursday.

The primary is scheduled for Sept. 14, 2010. The general election is Nov. 2, 2010.
