Homecoming plans in the making

If you have a student in your home who attends South Hagerstown High School, then you know that homecoming is just two short weeks away.

The hunt for the perfect homecoming dress and date is on. No more is the dance immediately following the Friday night game so that the football players have just enough time for a quick shower and possibly one dance.

So welcome, homecoming weekend. Getting a jump on the weekend, Thursday, Oct. 1, is the pep rally and bonfire on the girls softball field. Time will be set and posted on the sign board at school. The festivities then pick up again the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 2, with tailgating at the school for alumni. Anytime after 4:30 p.m., tailgaters can start setting up at the rear entrance of the school. Access to the game can be gained from that rear entrance also. Wouldn't it be fun to pack the stadium? Game time is set for 7 p.m. as South welcomes Williamsport High School.

Fast forward to Saturday, Oct. 3, and the homecoming dance. The committee is working hard to set up an eco-friendly-themed evening. Please be cautious as you are out and about and be aware that there will be an added number of young drivers on the road that night.

Harvest festival set for Saturday

Let the fall festivals begin. This Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Beaver Creek Christian Church will hold its annual harvest festival. If you enjoy good food, such as country ham sandwiches, homemade soups, baked goods and steamers, then you can't miss this. There will also be a yard sale and quilt show. The Beaver Creek Quilters will raffle a quilt to benefit Breast Cancer Awareness - Cumberland Valley. For more information, call 301-797-6586.

Fall bargain sale

Just when you thought the yard sale season was over, the Women's Club on Prospect Street kicks things up a notch. On Oct. 2 and 3, the club will hold its fall bargain sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Gently used clothing, jewelry and household items will be for sale. Sandwiches and drinks will be available for purchase.

Basketball signups to be held Oct. 6

The Hagerstown Junior Basketball League will hold registration Thursday, Oct., from 6 to 8 p.m. at E. Russell Hicks Middle School for all new and returning players. Bring proof of age or birth certificate.
