Elmer Everett Mowen, 81, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born Monday, June 11, 1928, in Greencastle, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry Clinton Mowen and the late Orpha V. Johnston Mowen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Caroline Arnold Mowen, in 2000.

He was employed with M.B. Keener & Sons Construction Co. and formerly with Talheim & Kretzer Construction Co.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the Greencastle Sportsman Club, Funkstown American Legion Post 211 and the AARP.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Beth Mowen of Keyser, W.Va.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was the last surviving member of his 15 brothers and sisters.

Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at 10 a.m., at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Darrell L. Layman officiating.


Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
