Chambersburg improves to 2-1

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Chambersburg stunned Harrisburg 11-6 on Saturday afternoon in a Mid-Penn Conference Commonwealth battle, the first victory for the Trojans over the Cougars since 2002.

Chambersburg improved to 2-1 (1-1 in conference) for the first time since 2000.

Quarterback David Reese scored on a 1-yard sneak with 35 seconds remaining in the first half and a subsequent two-point conversion gave the Trojans an 8-0 lead.

Harrisburg's Jawon Chisholm scored on a 9-yard run with 1:08 left in the third period but the Cougars (0-3, 0-2) failed on a two-point conversion run attempt.

Colby Perry booted a 42-yard field goal with 8:53 remaining and the Trojans held on from there.

Reese threw for 112 yards.

Bishop Walsh 14, Saint James 0

CUMBERLAND, Md. -- Dylan Zimmerman rushed for 70 yards on 13 carries, but Saint James was shut out by Bishop Walsh.

The game was a defensive struggle, with both teams combining for just 15 first downs. The Saints (1-1) held the Spartans to 115 yards rushing, well below their season average.

Bishop Walsh improved to 4-0.

Greencastle 0-2 at CD East

COLONIAL PARK, Pa. -- Greencastle lost both of its games at the Central Dauphin East Tournament on Saturday. The Blue Devils fell to Red Lion, 3-1 and Southwestern, 4-2.

Kevin Piper scored unassisted for Greencastle against Red Lion, while Sprague had six saves.

Zach Faulkner and Nick Cordell each scored a goal, Dylan Stouffer and Corey Meyers each added an assist and Sprague made nine saves in goal against Southwestern.

JV: Red Lion 5, Greencastle 0; Greencastle 1, Southwestern 0.

Mercersburg 2, Hedgesville 0

MERCERSBURG, Pa. -- Carlos Garcia scored on an Andy Chan assist to break a scoreless tie in the 37th minute, and Joey Roberts later scored for Mercersburg (4-0-1), which outshot Hedgesville, 22-4.

JV: Mercersburg, 4-0.

Conemaugh Township 1, McConnellsburg 0

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. -- Ryan Brown scored the only goal of the game in the 34th minute for Conemaugh.

Dillan Hollinshead made 24 saves for McConnellsburg.

Mercersburg 6, Goretti 0

MERCERSBURG, Pa. -- Trisha Bassi had two goals and two assists to lead Mercersburg Academy to its second consecutive shutout.

Laura Rahauser and Ana Kelly had a goal and an assist each, while Lilly Hebert and Kate Vary each scored and Laura Rahauser and Abby Ryland added an assist apiece for the Blue Storm (3-1).

Mercersburg splits two

MERCERSBURG, Pa. -- Taylor Riley had 14 digs and 11 kills for Mercersburg, which swept Berkeley Springs, 25-22, 25-21, 25-16 in the first match of a tri-meet which also involved Musselman.

Sarah Kolanowski added eight kills, seven digs and six blocks and Abby Schwing tallied 20 assists for the Blue Storm.

Musselman later swept Mercersburg, 25-7, 25-15, 25-21.

Altoona Invitational

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Mercersburg Academy's Neb Osman placed second with a time of 15:51 in the Altoona Cross Country Invitational, while Ellis Mays finished ninth (16:29) and Matt Cook was 26th (17:34).

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Mackenzie Riford medaled with a seventh-place finish in 19:57.06 to lead Mercersburg Academy at the Altoona Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.

Abby Colby also medaled, finishing the course in 20:06.88 to place 11th. Also running for the Blue Storm were Julia Simons (21:27.10), Liza Stalfort (25:20.55) and Ro Maweni (30:58.70).

Wolny wins singles title

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Mercersburg Academy's Nikki Wolny won the first singles title at the State College Invitational.

In the semifinals, Wolny beat Vidhi Patel of Downington West, 6-0, 6-0 and then downed Corrine Jones of State College in the finals, 6-0, 6-0.

Sarah Allen was second in No. 2 singles. Michaella Hoehn and Saric Nerissa Lam teamed for second place in No. 2 doubles and Woodli Krutek and Hannah Braun were third in No. 3 doubles.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. -- Sarah Wilson had a goal and an assist, Cammie Riley scored a goal and Jane Banta made 10 saves for Mercersburg.

MEN'S SOCCER



HCC 6, Chesapeake 2

WYE MILLS, Md. -- Alex Manea led HCC with two goals and an assist as the Hawks defeated Chesapeake in an Md. JuCo game.

Chris Lambert and Michael Reyes each had a goal and an assist, Mike Weaver and Kris Potter scored once apiece and Roland Wilson and Josh Edwards recorded an assist each for HCC (4-2-1, 3-1-1). Brian Kukucka made five saves.

Seton Hill 3, Shepherd 0

GREENSBURG, Pa. -- Joe Kossler, Doug Schmitt and Mike Belsito all scored as Seton Hill (4-2-1, 2-2) shutout Shepherd.

Derek Munro had nine saves for the Rams (3-4, 1-2).

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- Brianna Hines scored twice for Shepherd (2-3-2), while Lauren Vetock made 10 saves in goal.
