Boonsboro cheerleaders help junior football team get 'fired up'

September 19, 2009

A few Boonsboro Area Athletic Association cheerleaders showed up early one Saturday morning recently to paint signs for the junior league football players to run through at the beginning of their games.

The cheerleaders have been meeting and practicing for the upcoming season for several weeks now.

The cheerleaders had tryouts Aug. 4, which helps builds the girls' confidence and will help them when they go on to cheer in high school where tryouts are mandatory. Tryouts were followed by a session of making tie-dye T-shirts, which all the girls enjoyed.

Their coaches are trying to build team spirit with the younger cheerleaders of the Pony squad this season so they came up with "The Little Sisters" program. Each of the varsity girls selected one or two younger cheerleaders to sponsor as their "Lil' Sister." The varsity cheerleaders were asked to make a card or sign for their "Lil' Sister."
