Howard's Arts & Frames to hold annual Art for the Animals event

Howard's Arts & Frames is holding its annual Art for the Animals Challenge at its store at 1256 Dual Highway in Hagerstown.

In the challenge, artists purchase a 5-by-7 canvas for $1. They paint a picture on the canvas and return it to Howard's, where it will be framed and placed into the popular choice voting and silent auction.

Popular choice voting runs from Oct. 10 to 17, and the silent auction runs from Oct. 10 to 28. Bidding closes Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. Bidders may place phone bids by calling Howard's at 301-733-2722.

The challenge is open to professional and amateur artists. The deadline for canvas submissions is Oct. 3. 

A reception will be Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at Howard's.

Proceeds from the challenge will be donated to the Humane Society of Washington County.
