Mail Call

September 19, 2009

"I'm calling in response to Falling Waters, W.Va. If that senior thinks that jail is so great, he ought to go himself. Because there's no such thing as three hots because all you get's a square mat to sleep on, and the meals are horrible. So if he thinks it's so great, he should try to go himself. There's no hot food. There's only a hot shower in the summertime." - Hagerstown

"(David) Limbaugh, in today's paper, states that health care would flatten the medical profession. Medicare didn't flatten the medical profession. In fact, they didn't make any money until they passed Medicare, and they were working for chickens. Why don't he get the news right?" - Hagerstown

"This is to correct the Social Security expert who, in one year, collected everything he paid into it. You must be old and lucky to have only paid that much. I've paid $70,000, and my employer has maxed that on an average salary, with 15 years still to retirement." - Hagerstown

"I have a daughter that's 3 years old and has Maryland Physicians Care. She cannot get the flu mist. It's a regular, normal flu shot, but they're giving it to every school-age child in Washington County at taxpayers' expense when a lot of these children's parents have insurance on them that could pay for it. This is totally way out of taxpayers." - Hagerstown

"I live on Air View Road, and I've noticed that there were signs up that said they were going to be doing some road work. Then, the signs were covered with black plastic. Last week, the black plastic blew off, and I, since I clean up my own street, with the help of a friend, picked up all the ones that blew off, and I noticed today that the county sent someone to recover the signs, and they threw down on the ground or left, they left the plastic bags on the ground that had blown off or come off. It's like littering, via the county workers. I hope that they take better lessons in the future." - Hagerstown

"Per Washington, D.C., officials, the recession is over. Got news for them - we just got another blow. Hubby retired from large industry, no longer has dental, visual or hearing aid benefits. Also, rumor is, life insurance benefits will be abolished. Where are we going to get life insurance for him at age 80? We now have to decide are we going to buy food or medicine. Guess we have just lived too long. Yes, he had a buyout, but that money would be peanuts today, plus the losses he's had." - Hagerstown

"I pay my own medical insurance, and it costs $363 a month, with a $3,000 out-of-pocket, no co-pay. First of the year, I'll be on Medicare and I will save money. And to people who get back on their credit cards, they will freeze your Social Security money, but it is against the law." - Chambersburg, Pa.

"I'd like to reply to the Hagerstown (resident) from the North End who was driving in the rain Friday, and all the stupid things people did, and she was wondering if it was the rain that caused it. I feel like it's Fridays that caused it. For some reason, people drive like they're crazy on Friday. I don't know if it's the last day of the workweek and they want to party hardy or what, but all the crazies are out on Friday." - Falling Waters, W.Va.

"After reading Leonard Pitts' article on Tuesday, Sept. 15, how could anyone ever accuse him of being racist?" - Martinsburg, W.Va.

"This is for the senior in Falling Waters who thinks jail is so great. If you want to live there, go commit a crime, spend some time there. You'll find out it's not as awesome as you think it is. Unfortunately, I've been there once. It's not the picnic you think it is. You wouldn't last one day." - Hagerstown

"I live on (U.S.) 40 west up here. When I took my grandkids to the municipal pool this summer a couple times, I noticed that there was a perfectly beautiful building on Frederick Street, across from Eastern Boulevard, road comes out. And it is perfect - all flat, no steps, nothing like that, and a lot of space. Why in the name of God does Mr. (John F.) Barr and them want to build a ... place and let another building empty? I just think they should reconsider." - Hagerstown

"Papers such as yours, along with other papers, say or claim that you have free speech, you know, to state one's opinion, but it's also free for the publisher and the editor of the paper to feel as though they don't really have to print or publish someone's opinion or free speech. I mean, in a way or in a sense, you don't really have free speech in this country at all." - Greencastle, Pa.

"Where were all of you people who are now so angry over Rep. (Joe) Wilson's rudeness when a bunch of Democrat Congress people booed President Bush's State of the Union speech a few years ago? Probably applauding the booers. ... And where's my apology from Democrat leaders (Nancy) Pelosi and (Harry) Reid for calling me and millions of other Americans much worse than liars, for daring to oppose Obamacare? Once again, the same old disgusting liberal double standard." - Frederick, Md.
