Hunt for fossils

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Geologist Jeri Jones will lead a fossil-hunting field trip from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. The trip, sponsored by Renfrew Institute, will explore areas in Perry County, Pa., that were once under the sea.

Planned stops on the trip will be near New Bloomfield and Pine Grove. Participants will have the opportunity to collect fossils from two different geologic periods. Hammers, collecting bags and newspaper for wrapping are suggested for this family-oriented trip. In addition, those attending should pack a lunch and beverage. Cameras are welcome.

Transportation for the trip (by bus only) is provided. Departure is from the lower parking lot of Renfrew Museum and Park in Waynesboro at 9 a.m. sharp.

The trip is open to all ages including families with children ages 4 and older. Field trip fee is $25 for adult members of Renfrew Institute; $30 for nonmembers. First child, ages 4 to 14, are admitted free with a paying adult. Additional children in the family may attend for $5 each. Seating is limited.
