MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A 23-year-old man who was found abandoned and disoriented Friday morning near his home off Grapevine Road east of Martinsburg was treated for a gunshot wound to the head at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., police said.

James J. Dixon was found at about 10 a.m. in a field between his residence in Royal Crest mobile home community and Grapevine Road by a person who was walking, Berkeley County Sheriff's Lt. Gary Harmison said.

Dixon was clothed and found in a seated position, unable to move, Harmison said.

"We have no leads at all right now," Harmison said Friday afternoon.

The victim was flown to Winchester (Va.) Medical Center for treatment, then transferred to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he was expected to undergo surgery, Harmison said.

Dixon was not listed as a patient at either hospital Friday night.
