The Hagerstown Church of the Brethren Peace Fellowship and the Interfaith Coalition of Washington County will hold a prayer vigil and candelight prayer walk through downtown Hagerstown on Monday.
The community is invited to participate in the event, being held to pray for peace in the community, the nation and the world, according to a prepared statement.
The event is being held as part of the International Day of Prayer for Peace.
Participants will gather at the peace poles in the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren parking lot at the corner of East Washington and Mulberry streets at 7 p.m. The candlelight walk will circle downtown Hagerstown, stopping at the four cardinal directions -- north, east, south and west -- for prayers of peace through several religious traditions. The walk will culminate at Public Square with a period of silent prayer.
