Mail Call

"Since the vast majority of seniors voted for Obama and the Democrats, we should make it easy for them to pass health care reform. One sentence will do it all. On Jan. 1, 2010, all those without health care, including illegals and those on welfare, should sign up for Medicare and be covered. They don't need 1,100 pages to solve the problem. One sentence will do it all. Everyone will be covered, and those who wanted 'change' will get what they wanted." - Hagerstown

"I'm calling, I have a question to ask of our president and our politicians. I want to know why the illegals are working, Americans are collecting unemployment. Shouldn't it be the Americans working, illegals not working, with the unemployment rate so high? I'd like to know what's wrong with this picture, and if somebody has a comment about this issue, I'm willing to listen." - Hagerstown

"This is in reference to the woman - to the person that called in and said that the waitress was greedy because she wanted tips. No, that's not being greedy. She said the waitress should be glad she has a job. ... A waitress' income is mostly all tips. ... The people that can go out and eat, even if they use a coupon, I don't care, they should have money for a tip. It's just common decency." - Hagerstown

"Concerning reading in your paper today, which is Monday, about they're having a parade slated for Oct. 10 in Williamsport to honor the people that served in the military, past and present, and especially in Afghanistan and Iraq, I feel that's really great and all. I think more towns and communities should do this." - Greencastle, Pa.

"My comment is it's just I wonder sometimes how the post office can be going broke in their process, because you have a postman that drives from house to house to house. They can't walk a route anymore. It's just ridiculous." - Hagerstown

"I'd like to know why I never hear anything about the Ravens. The Ravens are a Maryland team - not the Steelers and not the Redskins, and not anybody else but the Ravens. So why don't we see that advertised? Why don't we see stuff advertised for the Ravens? What's the matter with this state, don't they know what's going on?" - Falling Waters, W.Va.

"I agree with the people who do not want socialized medicine. In fact, I think that it is time to get rid of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. America is the land of opportunity. Everyone has the opportunity to become a rich person. There are 359 billionaires in the U.S. Any child born today has the opportunity to be one. If not a billionaire, all you have to do is win the lottery." - Halfway

"I'm calling about the waitresses complaining about the tips. Last I checked, it wasn't a law that you had to tip or not tip, so I go to a restaurant, if I'm treated well by a waitress she'll get a tip. If not, I don't tip, and that's the way it is." - Hagerstown

"This is to the people that are talking about President Obama's speech to the young students. If there wouldn't have been such a public outcry, how do we know what his speech might have contained? ... After all, we know they did revise some of the teaching papers. We know the White House did revise some of those papers for the students to work on, so maybe they would have revised his speech." - Hagerstown

"I'm calling in about the working poor of America. Does everybody agree with me that the working poor of America is working one to two jobs, and their husbands working one to two jobs, they have no family life? And we have less benefits than what the welfare people do? They get free health care, get free food, get free housing. We make too much money, because we're trying to support ourselves without welfare. But yet now they're trying to cram this health care stuff down our throats in this country. The working poor are tired of carrying the weight of the world, of the U.S. on their shoulders." - Hagerstown

"You can't honor or say the name of Jesus in public schools anymore, you can't teach about Him, you can't even say 'Merry Christmas.' But we're all worried about the president not being able to have his speech in public schools. We need to start teaching these kids right from wrong again, the biblical way." - Keedysville

"This is in response to the complaints about people being concerned about Obama's speech in the schools. I would like to say that it doesn't surprise me that people would have reservation or concern, due to his track record of speeches that he's made throughout the world. I certainly would be concerned." - Keedysville

"Joe Wilson spoke the truth. The progressive elitists in Washington can't handle the truth. The emperor has no clothes." - Keedysville

"My comment is for a caller on Monday, Sept. 14, making a statement that they found Obama's timing for the speech to the schools to be rather suspicious, and to be very calculating, and I would just like to say that he timed it because it was the beginning of the school year, and maybe that should be taken into consideration." - Hagerstown
