Walter Berl Duncan, 87, of Hagerstown, formerly of Lorain, Ohio, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born June 5, 1922, in Shinnston, W.Va., he was the son of the late Arthur Wesley and Edna Susan (Looman) Duncan. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Emilienne Marie (Antony) Duncan.

Walter was a World War II Combat Veteran and later retired from Koehring Co., Lorain, Ohio, with 20 years and Steele Tire Service, Lorain, Ohio, after more than 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, St. Anthony's Men's Club, where he was Man of the Year 1990 and 1991, Holy Name Society, and was the 1964 City Bowling Champion.

Walter is survived by one daughter, Sylvia M. Bowron; three sons, Daniel W. Duncan, the Rev. Dr. Jean-Pierre Duncan and Marc A. Duncan; seven grandchildren, Michelle Brodgon, David Duncan, Danielle Duncan, Jennifer Duncan, Katie Duncan, Aimee Duncan and Sarah Duncan; two great-grandchildren, David Brogdon and Emiliene Brogdon; and several nieces and nephews.


In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, Ohio, on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. Prayers will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10:20 a.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Fr. Joseph West, O.F.M. Conv., will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio.
