MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A Gerrardstown, W.Va., man has been charged in the theft of approximately $80,000 worth of jewelry from Kmart on Apple Harvest Drive, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.

Bobby Lee Jenkins, 31, was charged with breaking and entering and grand larceny, and was being held Thursday at Eastern Regional Jail, according to a news release.

The theft at Kmart occurred Aug. 24 and involved items like tennis bracelets, and gold and diamond rings, Cpl. Chris McCulley said.

Entry was made into the store when glass at the front of the store was smashed, McCulley said. An alarm was activated after the store was broken into shortly after 1 a.m., but no one was there when police arrived, McCulley said.
