Hagerstown man arrested in home invasion

September 15, 2009

Police have arrested a Hagerstown man after a woman was accosted Monday night in her home in the 200 block of West Side Avenue, a Hagerstown Police Department spokesman said Tuesday.

The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Monday when a man approached the woman in the living room of her home, Lt. Fred Wolford said.

It is believed the man might have entered the house through a back door, Wolford said.

The man showed a gun, took jewelry and medicine from the woman, and fled from the home, Wolford said.

An investigation led police to a house on Central Avenue, where the man was found in a garage behind the house, Wolford said. A starter pistol, like those used in track meets, was found on the man, and police recovered items that had been reported stolen, Wolford said.

It was unclear Tuesday night what charges had been filed against the man.
