Assisted living residents evacuated due to smoke



BOONSBORO - About a dozen residents at an assisted living facility on Maple Avenue were evacuated Monday afternoon due to smoky conditions caused by a malfunctioning light, said a 911 dispatcher.

Rescue crews were able to correct the situation at Charlotte's Home Inc. and the patients were allowed to return inside, the dispatcher said.

The incident was reported at 5:11 p.m.

Pedestrian struck by car in Hagerstown



A 21-year-old pedestrian was hit by a vehicle near Leasure's Driving School on South Potomac Street on Monday evening, said a 911 dispatcher.

The man was clipped by a mirror on the vehicle about 6 p.m. and was taken to Washington County Hospital, the dispatcher said.

The man's condition could not be determined Monday night.

Washington County deputies respond to theft, domestic dispute calls



The Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to the following incidents, according to Lt. Mark Knight:

Sunday, Sept. 13

  • At 1:38 a.m., scrap metal and other construction materials were reported stolen from a construction site on Downsville Pike at Rench Road.

  • At 3:23 a.m., a domestic dispute was reported between a husband and wife in the 10800 block of Downsville Pike.

  • At 8:31 a.m., a home was reported broken into in the 18600 block of Carolyn Street.

  • At 6:18 p.m., items were reported stolen from Martin's on North Pointe Drive.

    Saturday, Sept. 12

  • At 2:15 a.m., a vehicle was reported damaged on Stayman Drive when it was hit with BBs.

  • At 3:54 a.m., a domestic dispute was reported between a wife and ex-husband in the 12000 block of Greendale Drive.

  • At 7:43 a.m., a 2000 Jeep Cherokee was reported stolen in the 18700 block of Mesa Terrace.

  • At 8:34 a.m., a domestic dispute was reported between a husband and wife in the 14600 block of Roosevelt Avenue.

  • At 9:02 a.m., change was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 17700 block of Burnside Avenue.

  • At 9:24 a.m., change was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 11300 block of Greenberry Road.

  • At 11:19 a.m., a vehicle was reported damaged overnight in the 11200 block of Youngstoun Drive.

  • At 12:18 p.m., cash was reported stolen when a home was broken into in the 21400 block of Greenbriar Road.

  • At 3:55 p.m., an Xbox and five games were reported stolen from a home in the 10700 block of Pickett Court.

  • At 8:54 p.m., an outdoor solar light was reported stolen in the 19500 block of Thomas Drive.

    Friday, Sept. 11

  • At 9:55 a.m., a controlled dangerous substance was found during a traffic stop at the intersection of Sharpsburg Pike and Interstate 70.

  • At 4:49 p.m., theft of parts from a truck was reported at D&D Truck repair on Notley Road.

  • At 6:48 p.m., a shoplifter was reported at various stores in Valley Mall.

  • At 6:58 p.m., a window was reported broken at a home in the 23500 block of Foxville Road.

  • At 10:33 p.m., a domestic incident was reported between a husband and wife in the 700 block of Cushman Avenue.
