Williamsport parade to honor those who have served in military

September 14, 2009

WILLIAMSPORT -- A parade to honor men and women of the military, past and present, will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, beginning at 11 a.m.

The parade route runs from Byron Memorial Park onto Artizan Street, then to Church Street, to Md. 68 (Conococheague Street) and onto U.S. 11, where the units will travel east on Potomac Street back to the park.

The parade will start with church bells, and yellow ribbons will be displayed along the route.

There will be a scroll for families to sign veterans' names and branches of service. A reviewing stand will be set up in front of Williamsport Town Hall for those who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan or who are home on leave.

Organizers ask that people with convertibles who would be willing to drive the veterans through the parade route call 301-223-5433 to volunteer the convertible and their time, or to reserve seats on the reviewing stand.
