Goldie Genevieve McAbee, 85, of 1676 Langley Drive in Hagerstown, Md., died peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009.

Born Feb. 18, 1924, in Clear Spring, Md., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Agnes Zeigler Shirk.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Robert F. "Bob" McAbee. He died July 16, 2005.

Goldie previously was employed by Dorbee Manufacturing for 20 years and the Potomac Center for five years.

She was an active member of the Hagerstown Suns Fan Club, Boonsboro American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 1936, Women's Auxiliary of the MOC and Conococheague Tribe 84 Red Feather Council.

Goldie is survived by two daughters, Carol Corbett and husband, Donald, of Hagerstown, and Donna West, and husband, Bill, of Boonsboro; one son, Joseph Vance Sr. and wife, Suzie, of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Cynthia A. Foreman and husband, Bill, of Hagerstown; one sister, Mary Myers of Williamsport, Md.; six grandchildren, Joseph Vance Jr., Michelle Hanna and Stacey Gatrell, all of Hagerstown, Kris Corbett of New York, and Amanda Cordova and Shannon Parks, both of Pearland, Texas; one stepgrandson, Darrin Kolich of Big Pool, Md.; 11 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by one son, Roy Vance.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at 7 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Steven McCarty will officiate.

At Goldie's request, her body has been donated for medical research.
