The second annual Puttin' for Paws Golf Tournament held at Black Rock Golf Course in Hagerstown raised more than $9,000 for the Humane Society of Washington County.
Co-hosted by the shelter and Greg and Ruth Smith of What a Tan, the event drew 68 golfers.
Paul Miller, executive director of the shelter, was pleased with the turnout. "Last year we had 34 players. This year's increase was tremendous."
Greg Smith of What a Tan was also very happy with the tournament.
"I think everyone had a really good day on the greens. We had some great golfers out there enjoying the day and helping the animals at the same time. That's what its all about," he said.
The tournament winners were Jerry Smith, Ryan Smith, Donnie Branch and Ron Lorshbaugh. The winner of the longest drive was Stephen Parrott. Although a number of players qualified for the J. Edward Cochran $10,000 putting contest, no one won the grand prize.
