The Siglers

Jim and Kathleen Sigler of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 7, by traveling by limousine with their family to Washington, D.C., and having a dinner cruise by Odyssey Cruises.

The trip was hosted by their children, Brian and wife, Janet; Sheri Griffith and husband, Oley; Gregg and wife, Chris; and Steve and wife, Dawn.

The Siglers were married June 6, 1959, at Shaft Methodist Church in Frostburg, Md., by the Rev. Charles Reckley.

Mr. Sigler retired from Mack Trucks in 1999 after 34 years of service.

Mrs. Sigler retired from the Washington County Board of Education in 2000, after 20 years of service.

The Siglers have nine grandchildren, who also attended the celebration.

The Swopes

Marvin and Meta Swope celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, with family and friends at Bethel United Methodist Church in Chewsville.

The party was hosted by their daughter, Pam Deal, and their son, Chris Swope. Also helping were Greg and Peggy Keefer, cousins of Meta Swope.


The renewing of wedding vows took place with Pastor Paul Leatherman of Longmeadow Church of the Brethren.

The Swopes were married Aug. 8, 1959, at Haven Lutheran Church by the Rev. Ray Blanset.

Mr. Swope is the son of the late Merle and Fannie Swope. He retired from Acme Markets in 1988 after 30 years of service.

Mrs. Swope is the former Meta Ann Shilling, daughter of the late Howard and Evelyn Shilling. She is a homemaker.

The Swopes lived in Hagerstown most of their lives but now reside in Waynesboro, Pa.

They have two grandsons and one granddaughter.
