HALFWAY, Md. - Calvin Cornelius Raidt Sr., 97, formerly of Halfway, Md., died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport, Md.

Born Aug. 25, 1912, in Norwood Ohio, he was the son of the late Gerrit Jan and Nellie Regterman Raidt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Jane Raidt, in 1994.

He was a 1930 graduate of Norwood High School of Norwood, Ohio, and a 1934 graduate of Cornell University of Ithaca, N.Y., with a bachelor of science degree.

He was employed by the Washington County Hospital as assistant comptroller until retiring in 1978. He was previously employed by the Alexander Hotel of Hagerstown, Md., as treasurer and director, and by Hagerstown Shoe Co. of Hagerstown, Md., as treasurer.


He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, Md. He served as church treasurer for 30 years, and was on the church council and other various committees.

He was a life member of the Institute of Management Accountants, the Volunteer Fire Co. of Halfway, Md., and a member of Cornell Hotel Society and Ye Hosts Honor Society.

Survivors include daughter Carol C. Ulrich and her husband Galen of Halfway, Md.; son John E. "Jack" Raidt and his wife Judy of Halfway, Md.; son Calvin C. "Buddy" Raidt Jr. and his wife Nancy of Halfway, Md.; daughter-in-law Barbara Raidt Summers of Maugansville, Md.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one son, Gerrit E. Raidt Sr.; two sisters, Cornelia M. Etter and Lucille M. Etter; and one brother, Gerrit W. Raidt.

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md., on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 1 p.m. on Friday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Edward Heim officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport, Md.
