Car, booster seat checks

The third annual "National Seat Check Saturday" is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12. Certified child passenger safety technicians will be available to provide hands-on instruction on installing car seats and booster seats at Toys R Us, 1730 Valley Mall Road, Hagerstown.

Self-care workshop

FREDERICK, Md. - A workshop, "Finding Balance: Caring for Yourself", will be Saturday, Sept. 12, at The Delaplaine Visual Arts Center, 40 S. Carroll St., Frederick. Sign-in is from 9 to 9:30 a.m., the workshop is from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a break for lunch, on your own, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The clinicians from the Healing Circles Wellness Center present tips on caring for yourself as you also deal with your child's special needs. Topics such as what to look for if you are burned out to relaxation techniques to maintaining self-esteem will be covered.

Acting classes for children

CHARLES TOWN, W. Va. -The Old Opera House Acting Studio announces its next season of classes. Classes begin Tuesday, Sept. 15, and run through Dec. 8.

Classes include: Proscenium Players, ages 8 to 12, from 4:15 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays; cost is $100; Triple Threats, ages 8 to 18, from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays; cost is $125; and Stepping Out, ages 13 to 18, from 6 to 6:45 p.m.; cost is $100.

Classes for pet owners

Hagerstown Community College's Center for Continuing Education is offering two workshops geared toward pet owners.

"Introduction to Dog Training for Dog Owners," will introduce students to the principles of dog behavior and learning. Taught by lecturer Pat Miller, author of "The Power of Positive Dog Training," this course will also involve hands-on training demonstrations. The three-night course will be offered on Tuesdays, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., beginning Oct. 6, and the first two classes will be on HCC's main campus. The final class will be at Peaceable Paws in Fairplay. Cost is $129.

"Introduction to Pet Message for the Pet Owner," will provide pet owners with a step-by-step approach to massaging their dog or cat. Students will learn about the holistic philosophy of animal well-being, as well as basic pet anatomy, animal psychology, and more. The one-day workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Humane Society of Washington County. Cost is $64.
