HAGERSTOWN, Md. - George Edwin Leatherman, 89, formerly of Hagerstown, passed away Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, at the Coral Trace Nursing Home, Cape Coral, Fla.

Born July 7, 1920, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Lucy Leatherman and was raised by his loving aunt and uncle, Clara and Frank Hollyday.

Ed was retired terminal manager for the Halls Motor Transit Co.

He was a 60-year member of the First Brethren Church.

He was the last surviving charter member of the Halfway Lions Club, where he received the Melvin Jones award.

He was a member of the Medairy Lodge No. 140 A.F. & A.M.

He is survived by a daughter, Edwina Miller, and husband Jim, of Cape Coral, Fla.; a granddaughter, Erin Steedley, and husband Mike, and a great-grandson, Evan James Steedley.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Goldie H. Leatherman, and three sisters, Catherine Helfrich, Ruth L. Moser and Mary V. Mundy.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Mark Sandell officiating. A reception to greet family and friends will be held following the service at Rest Haven.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George's name to the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 10813 Donelson Drive, Williamsport, MD 21795.
