Gun giveaway planned for Oct. 3



The Maugansville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Co. will hold its third annual gun giveaway Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Improved Order of Red Men at 16129 Lappans Road in Williamsport.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Food will be available from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and beer from noon to 5 p.m. You must buy a band for $5 to drink beer.

The meal will include roast beef sandwich and other items.

Tickets are sponsored by Karl Pile Septic Service. You must be 18 years old to purchase tickets and to enter the grounds. Ticket stub and ID will be required. No outside coolers will be allowed.

Tickets cost $20 for singles or $30 per couple.

Vishay Angstrohm luncheon planned



The former employees of Vishay Angstrohm (also known as Ward Leonard) will meet for lunch at 808 Junction Thursday, Sept. 17, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Concert planned



Mount Zion Church, at 14336 Greencastle Pike, will host a bluegrass gospel concert Sunday at 2 p.m., featuring Richard and Mary Fox and Higher Ground.

Refreshments will be served. A goodwill offering will be collected for the group during a short intermission. A basket will be placed in the church for anyone wishing to make a contribution for cemetery maintenance.

Hendershot ride



The second annual Tour de Park Linn Hendershot Memorial Kids Bike Ride will be Saturday at Fairgrounds Park from 8 a.m. to noon.

The event is for those ages 1 to 15, plus those with disabilities.

Participants can ride, walk or wheelchair through the fairgrounds. There will be 4K, 10K and mini-K options.

You do not have to raise money to ride, only to be eligible for prizes (minimum $50 raised).

Bring your bicycle, tricycle, wheelchair, walker or similar mode of transportation.

The grand prize is an HP Touch Screen TX2 laptop computer.

Second prize is a Nintendo DSI package or party at Pump It Up.

Third prize is a Chuck E. Cheese pizza party plus game tokens.

This year's event will help support Project Lifesaver, a local program of MIHI (Many Individuals Helping Individuals), that provides a radio frequency transmitter for participants to wear which aids in rapid location of a missing loved one who wanders off due to autism, Alzheimer's, Down syndrome or other related brain disorders.
