Fun shoot planned Saturday in Poolesville

POOLESVILLE, Md. -- The Potomac Valley Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society, in conjunction with the BCC Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, will hold a Fun Shoot and Sporting Clays Challenge on Saturday at the League's shooting grounds, Izaak Walton Way (off West Willard Road), Poolesville.

 According to Terry Oland, the entry fee for the 50-target event (25 trap and 25 sporting clays) is $40, and includes dinner, trophies and prizes. The event is open to the public. The shoot is limited to 50 participants.

Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. (shooting from 1 to 5 p.m.). Dinner, which costs $10 for nonshooters, will be served from 4 to 6 p.m., with awards for high gun,  high ladies and high youth (16 years and younger) to follow.

There is also an optional $10 senior division class (65 and older) and $10 side-by-side division.

Proceeds from the event will be used to restore and protect Maryland's grouse and woodcock habitat.

Established in 1961, the Ruffed Grouse Society is the one international wildlife conservation organization dedicated to promoting conditions suitable for ruffed grouse, American woodcock and related wildlife to sustain the sport hunting tradition and outdoor heritage.
