Grace beats Lions to remain perfect

BOYS SOCCER

Spencer Horst and Luke Bunting both scored and assisted on goals as Grace Academy handed Broadfording Christian a 3-0 loss in a battle of unbeatens.

Caleb Serafini had a goal and Steve Jacques added one assist, while Kenny Frederickson had four saves for the Knights (6-0).

Donnie Fritz had nine saves for the Lions (6-1).

Clear Spring 1, Manchester Valley 0

MANCHESTER, Md. -- Blake Vincent scored on an assist from a corner kick by Brandon Kesselring as Clear Spring shut out Manchester Valley.

The Blazers (3-1) outshot Manchester Valley, 14-3.

Tuscarora 4, North Hagerstown 2

Frederick Owusu-Ayim and Cori Collela both scored but North lost to Tuscarora.

Caleb Mittel and David Barnhard combined for four saves for the Hubs (2-2).

St. Maria Goretti 2, Williamsport 2

WILLIAMSPORT -- Williamsport and St. Maria Goretti battled to a 2-2 tie in double overtime.

Bryan Whitmore and Dan Doub both scored, Jordan Payne had an assist, while Alex Aleshire had eight saves for the Wildcats (2-0-1).

Meteo Pejla and Aaron Wilkinson both scored, Vince Turano had an assist, while Nick Buckner had nine saves for the Gaels.

Heritage Academy 4, CVCS 1

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Mark Taggart and Travis Barthalow each scored a pair of goals -- with both of Taggart's coming on headers -- as Heritage Academy beat Cumberland Valley Christian in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference game.

Barthalow also assisted on Taggart's first goal for the Eagles (4-2, 4-2). Josh Long made 19 saves. Kyle Myers had the lone goal for CVCS.

South Carroll 3, Smithsburg 0

SMITHSBURG -- The Leopards fell to the Cavaliers, failing to score on eight shots. Emily Hargreaves recorded nine saves for Smithsburg (1-2).

Jefferson 7, St. Maria Goretti 0

Sarah Cogswell, Rachel Ransom and Lauren Hall each scored two goals and Kelsey Barnholt added one for Jefferson. Colleen Costello had 22 saves for Goretti (0-4).

North Carroll 3, Boonsboro 1

HAMSPTEAD, Md. -- Amber Smith scored Boonsboro's lone goal and Becky Smith recorded 17 saves for the Warriors.

HANCOCK -- Mariah Peck scored on assist by Micky Castle as Hancock shutout Saint James.

WESTMINSTER, Md. -- Megan Plume had 30 assists as North beat Winters Mill, 20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 26-24, 15-5.

Bailey Mandeville had 25 digs, Mollie Johnson had 18 digs, Anna Wade had nine kills, while Akilah McCall added eight kills for the Hubs (2-0).

South Hagerstown 3, Manchester Valley 0

Megan Vance had 28 assists and 15 service points to help South win its first game of the season with a 25-6, 25-15, 25-8 sweep over Manchester Valley.

Rebecca Pearl had six service points and seven kills,

Morgan McCoy had five kills and six service points, while Kara Burgan had seven service points for the Rebels (1-1).

LOYSBURG, Pa. --Brittany Strait had 11 service points, including an ace but Southern Fulton was swept 25-23, 25-17, 25-22 by Northern Bedford.

Saint James 3, Hancock 0

Callan Spicher had 10 kills, 13 digs and 11 service points as St. James shut out Hancock, 25-10, 25-13, 25-22.

Lindsey Gish had six aces, 16 service points and 20 assists, while Regena Reyes had three blocks and five kills for the Saints (1-0).

Kelsie Clark had five service points and three assists and Katie Cropp had five digs for Hancock (0-2).

St. Maria Goretti 3, Mercersburg 2

MERCERSBURG, Pa. -- Courtney Thompson had 15 kills and 20 service points to lead St. Maria Goretti to a 25-23, 25-16, 21-25, 30-32, 15-12 win over Mercersburg Academy.

Sarah Swope had six aces and eight kills, while Jean Hogan had 30 kill assists for the Gaels (2-2).

Sarah Kolanowski had three blocks, eight digs and 10 kills, Taylor Riley had two aces, nine digs and 14 kills, while Brooke Mahaffey had 13 service points for the Blue Storm.

Hannah Young had 16 kills and 12 digs as Broadfording beat Grace Academy 25-18, 25-15, 18-25, 25-15 in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference match.

Rebecca Adams had 31 assists and six digs, Charlotte Worsfold had eight kills and Danielle Dubois had 20 digs, six aces and three kills for the Lions (7-0, 6-0).

Victoria Broadwater had seven kills, Jamie Shurnitski had six kills and 15 assists, while Gabby Durr had 14 digs for the Knights (3-3).

Greencastle 3, Harrisburg 0

GREENCASTLE, Pa. -- Erin Garns had 10 aces and 33 points to lead Greencastle over Harrisburg, 25-3, 2-57, 25-4.

Shalom 3, Calvary Christian 0

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Stacey Thrush had nine digs and 10 kills as Shalom Christian Academy swept Calvary Christian 25-20, 25-18, 25-20.

Natasha Gibble had nine assists, Audree Perry had seven assists and Tasha Lentz had seven service points and 12 digs.
