Hagerstown man charged in accident in which trailer breaks loose

HAGERSTOWN -- A Hagerstown man was charged Thursday with not reporting an accident after a trailer he was hauling Wednesday on Interstate 70 broke loose and hit a car, according to Maryland State Police.

Ralph Allen Wiles Jr., 36, was charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident in which someone was hurt, not remaining at the scene, not properly reporting a vehicle accident and driving a loaded vehicle that wasn't secured.

The accident happened at about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday on I-70, west of Md. 632.

Maryland State Police said in a news release that Wiles was driving west in a 1993 Ford F-150 truck that was pulling a trailer.

The trailer broke loose, crossed the median and hit an eastbound 1999 Saturn head-on. The truck did not stop.

The driver of the Saturn -- Melody Ann Seal-Manaa, 28, of Hagerstown -- was taken to Washington County Hospital. She was listed in stable condition Wednesday, but had been released by Thursday night.


Warfordsburg man faces assault, endangerment charge

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - A Warfordsburg man was charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment following an incident earlier this week in which he allegedly grabbed a woman by the neck, according to a press release from the Pennsylvania State Police.

Bobby Lee Stotler, 54, of Warfordsburg, also is accused of being verbally abusive to the 44-year female victim and throwing two full cans of beer at her, the release said.

The incident allegedly occurred late Sunday night and early Monday morning at 2235 Stoneybreak Road in Bethel Township, the release said.

St. Thomas man charged with sexual assault

ST. THOMAS, Pa. - A St. Thomas man recently was charged with statutory sexual assault for allegedly having sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl, a press release from the Pennsylvania State Police said.

Dustin Allen Appleby, 23, of 9177 Campbells Run Road in St. Thomas, also was charged with corruption of minors and furnishing alcohol to minors, the release said.

The incidents allegedly occurred from Dec. 2, 2008, to Jan. 1, 2009, at 4936 Racetrack Road in St. Thomas Township, the release said.
