Slurry seal resurfacing to begin Monday

September 10, 2009

Work crews from Slurry Pavers Inc. will install a slurry seal surfacing treatment on portions of three streets in Hagerstown beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, weather permitting.

The city provided the following information. The areas affected are:

o East Washington Street (U.S. 40 to Richmond Street)

o Beechwood Drive (Glenwood Avenue to Fairview Road)

o Brinker Drive (East Wilson Boulevard south to the dead end)

In addition, Craig Paving will mill Summit Avenue, between Garlinger Avenue and Memorial Boulevard, and Guilford Avenue. Paving will be installed the week of Sept. 14 on these two streets.

One lane of each street will be closed at a time while the work is being performed. The contractor will use flaggers to keep traffic flowing in the other lane around the work area. Motorists approaching the work areas may encounter cones, barricades, flaggers and other traffic-control devices.

Delays are likely, and motorists are advised to use alternate routes around the work zone.

The city said emergency vehicles will be able to pass through the work zones, but dispatchers should be aware the work will likely cause traffic congestion and delays in the area.

Anyone with questions may contact the City's Department of Engineering and Code Administration at 301-739-8577, ext. 125.
