Salsa canning class to be given Friday

September 09, 2009

As tomatoes are nearing the end of the season, many people are looking for ways to preserve these delectable fruits. And what better way to preserve the end of season vegetables and fruits, but to make salsa.

The Washington County Agricultural Marketing Office, in partnership with the University Of Maryland Extension-Washington County, will hold a canning class focusing on the methods and best practices for canning and preserving salsa.

The salsa class is Friday from 10 a.m. to noon and will feature canning methods and recipes for salsa as well as other tomato/vegetable combinations.

The class will include a review of home canning equipment, processing methods, ingredient preparation and food safety practices. Even if you have been canning for years, this will be a refresher class to keep your family safe and well supplied with home canned fruits and vegetables in the winter months.
