Florence Elizabeth "Flo" (Fertenbaugh) Stough, 86, of Hagerstown, passed away on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village, in Boonsboro.

Born on May 13, 1923, in Mechanicsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Glen R. and Mary Ellen (Raffensberger) Fertenbaugh.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Harold Leroy Stough, who passed away in March 2005.


Flo was a 1941 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School.

She was a homemaker and Lutheran by faith. She enjoyed gardening and spent many hours tending to her flowers and plants.

As a young women, Flo traveled to Salt Lake City to be with her husband while he was in the military serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. She lived in Salt Lake City until he was deployed to the Pacific. Following his deployment, she returned to Mechanicsburg, where they reunited after the war before moving to Hagerstown.

Florence is survived by a son, Thomas Lee and wife Jo-Anne (Douglass) Stough of Baltimore; a brother, Glenn "Hank" Fertenbaugh of Camp Hill, Pa.; two nephews, William Fertenbaugh of Dillsburg, Pa., and Michael Fertenbaugh of Camp Hill.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Mechanicsburg Cemetery, 137 W. Marble St., Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Brandon Byler officiating.

At the family's request, to honor Flo's wishes, there will be no visitation.
