Suns' error costly in loss to Captains

September 06, 2009

Hagerstown Suns shortstop Steven Souza's throwing error in the sixth inning gave the Lake County Captains what turned out to be the winning run in a 2-1 South Atlantic League victory Sunday at Municipal Stadium.

The Captains took a 1-0 lead on consecutive doubles by Trent Baker and Karexon Sanchez leading off the third inning.

Lake County made it 2-0 in the sixth. Chris Nash doubled with one out and Adam Abraham walked. John Allman then grounded back to Suns pitcher Marcos Frias, who threw to shortstop Steven Souza to force Abraham out at second. Souza's throw to first to try to complete the double play was wild, allowing Nash to score.

Hagerstown got a run back in the seventh against reliever Jose Urena. Brett Newsome singled and Michael Guerrero reached on a throwing error by shortstop Daniel DeGeorge as Newsome went to third. Newsome scored on a wild pitch.
