Hancock snaps 14-game skid

WASHINGTON, Va. -- Hancock used a stellar defensive effort, including a fourth-quarter goal-line stand, to defeat Rappahannock County 20-12 on Friday night to snap a 14-game losing streak.

Nick Harvey had 21 tackles, while Dakota Clark had two sacks and two tackles for losses for the Panthers (1-0), who forced five fumbles. Down eight with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Rappahannock County (0-2) had four chances to score from Hancock's 3-yard line, but was denied by the Panthers' defense.

Nick Lanehart scored on runs of 22 and 21 yards for Hancock, while Garrett Wiles ran for a TD and Clark ran for 90 yards.

Boonsboro 35, Owings Mills 6

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Branden McLean ran the opening kickoff back 89 yards for a touchdown and Boonsboro didn't look back in a season-opening rout of Owings Mills.

Drew Lowery rushed for a team-high 84 yards and two TDs for the Warriors (1-0), while Caleb Jardeleza scored on a 1-yard run and Andy Sigler threw a touchdown pass to Brandon Foote.

The Golden Eagles (0-1) were held to just 41 yards of offense.

Smithsburg 20, Northern Garrett 6

ACCIDENT, Md. -- Ben Daniels led Smithsburg with 131 rushing yards and three first-half touchdowns as the Leopards opened their season with a win over Northern Garrett (0-1).

Nieko Akers paced the Smithsburg defense with seven tackles.

Clear Spring 28, Manchester Valley 6

MANCHESTER, Md. -- Wes Jackson scored all four of Clear Spring's touchdowns, leading the Blazers to a season-opening win over Manchester Valley.

Jackson had 22 carries for 211 yards, including three TD runs, and also scored on a 50-yard interception return.

Jackson scored his longest touchdown run of 60 yards in the third.

Sam Elwood had two of Clear Spring's five interceptions and Ken Bosic had 11 tackles.

Martinsburg 41, Potomac Falls 16

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Kam Puller was 8-for-14 passing for 164 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed 19 times for 100 yards and a score to lead Martinsburg to a rout of Potomac Falls (1-1).

David Hammond had 100 receiving yards, including a 73-yard TD pass from Puller in the first quarter, for the Bulldogs (2-0). Brandon Bishop scored two touchdowns -- one on the ground, the second on an 11-yard reception -- while David Arndt caught Puller's third TD pass and Kendal Redman ran one of Potomac Falls' three lost fumbles back for a touchdown.
