Suns blow five-run lead, but win in the ninth

September 05, 2009

The Hagerstown Suns blew a five-run lead in the top of the ninth inning, but James Keithley salvaged the game in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single that gave the Suns a 6-5 win over the Lake County Captains on Saturday at Municipal Stadium.

The Suns (56-76) pounded out 14 hits and held a 5-0 lead going into the ninth.

The Captains (69-66) erased all of that lead, starting with three consecutive singles off reliever Austin Garrett and ending with a two-run triple by John Allman that tied the score at 5-5.

The game looked to be headed to extra innings as Lake County reliever Garrison Campfield retired Tyler Moore and Travis Reagan on consecutive pop outs.

Brett Newsome drew a walk and was replaced by pinch runner Val Heredia.

Heredia stole second and took third on a throwing error before scoring on Keithley's base hit.

Suns starter Patrick Lehman was outstanding, allowing just two hits and striking out nine in seven innings.
