The Christophers

Anthony and Mildred Christopher of Williamsport celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Saturday, Aug. 29.

Mr. Christopher is a World War II veteran who served in Germany and France. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

The Christophers have five children, Jim, David, Alan, Mary and Michelle), eight grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. They are members of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Williamsport. They were honored by the Archdiocese of Baltimore for being the longest married couple in their parish.

The Madeses

Charlie and Barbara Mades celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 9, 2009, with a family dinner at Dutch's Daughter in Frederick, Md., hosted by their children and spouses.


The Madeses were married July 11, 1959, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown by Father Charles Kline.

Mrs. Mades is the daughter of the late Jean Chronister and R. Karl Shank. Mr. Mades is the son of the late Charles and Naomi Mades.

The Madeses have three children, Michael, husband of Laura; Mark, husband of Susan; and Melissa Weber, wife of Mark. They have nine grandchildren.

Mr. Mades retired from the Maryland State Police after 25 years of service. He then served 20 years as sheriff of Washington County. Mrs. Mades retired as a secretary with Potomac Center in 1993.

Mr. and Mrs. Mades were presented with a Maryland Senate Resolution by State Sen. Donald Munson, recognizing their 50 years of marriage.

The Bowerses

Lynn and Cathie Bowers of Hagerstown celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Aug. 1, 2009, with a reception at Zion Lutheran Church in Williamsport, where they renewed their vows with the Rev. Gregory Martin officiating.

The Bowers were married July 21, 1984, at Zion Lutheran Church by the Rev. W. Gregory Martin.

They have three sons, Zachery, Austin and Noah.
