Barnhart named Order of Eagles Auxiliary state president

Helen Barnhart was installed as president of the Maryland State Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles at Brunswick Aerie 1136 in Brunswick, Md., June 28.

Barnhart has been an active member of Hagerstown Auxiliary 694 since 1993. She has served in most of the offices in her local auxiliary. She has been president twice in 2001-02 and 2005-06. Barnhart was elected Madam Outside Guard for Maryland Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles and has progressed through the ranks to her present position as president for the 2009-10 term.

Barnhart has been married to Marlin Barnhart for more than 28 years. She was employed by the Tucker County Board of Education in West Virginia.

Helen Barnhart, along with Paul Armstrong, president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Maryland State Aerie, have chosen Epidermolysis Bullosa as their joint state charity.

EB children are born with skin as thin as a butterfly's wings. Arsmtrong and Barnhart will also be working with Debra of America, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to research and direct service to the disease.

Barnhart will be making numerous visits to the auxiliaries in the state. Her first official visit to Hagerstown will be Sept. 26 and 27.
