Suns take advantage of Captains' wildness for 6-run inning, victory

September 05, 2009

The Hagerstown Suns scored six runs on two hits, five walks and four wild pitches in the fourth inning on the way to a 9-4 victory over the Lake County Captains on Friday night at Municipal Stadium.

Tyler Moore led off the fourth with a double, J.R. Higley walked and Brett Newsome hit an RBI double. The rest of the runs scored on a bases-loaded walk and the four wild pitches -- one coming on a swinging third strike by Chris Curran that would have ended the inning with just the one run. Instead, Curran reached first and the inning continued.

Lake County answered with a four-run fifth inning. With two outs, Delvi Cid singled, Karexon Sanchez walked and a throwing error by shortstop Jose Lozada allowed Chris Nash to reach base as Cid scored. Adam Abraham followed with a three-run homer to center.

The Suns took a 7-4 lead in the seventh when Moore walked and Higley hit an RBI double. They capped the scoring with two runs in the eighth on Travis Reagan's RBI single and Moore's RBI double.
