Pride Day

Maugansville Pride Day is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will include craft vendors and food.

The Maugansville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Co. will be frying fresh-cut french fries and running its gold fish and ring toss games. The fire prevention safety trailer will be on hand and the fire company will be recruiting new members.

Church fest

Maugansville Baptist Church will hold its festival in conjunction with Maugansville Pride Day. The event will include an inflatable bounce, food and sale tables. The church is across from the entrance to the elementary school.

Exercise classes

The Washington County Recreation Department will offer the following exercise classes at Maugansville Elementary School:

o 60 Minutes in 45 - taught by ACE certified instructor Gene Raby on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. from Sept. 15 to Dec. 10 (no class Nov. 26). This class is a high/low-impact choreographed aerobics with basic step and body conditioning to get a 60-minute workout in 45 minutes. The class costs $35 for county residents and $45 for out-of-county residents. Senior citizens (ages 55 and older) can take a 20 percent discount off the cost of the class.


o Muscles at Work - taught by Raby, offers participants a weight training and body toning class on Wednesday evenings from Sept. 9 to Nov. 18 (no class Nov. 11) from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. This class will focus on abs, glutes, inner and outer thighs, plus arms and chest.

The class costs $25 for county residents and $30 for out-of-county residents.

o Zumba - taught by certified Zumba instructor Liz Martz. It offers a workout set to rhythmic music. It will be offered Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. from Sept. 15 to Nov. 19 (no class Oct. 13).

The class costs $35 for county residents and $45 for out-of-county residents.

Pooch Plunge

On Wednesday, Sept. 9, Potterfield Pool, off Frederick Street in Hagerstown, will host the sixth annual Pooch Plunge from 6 to 9 p.m.

Admission for one dog and handler costs $5 and $2 for each additional human or pet.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Humane Society of Washington County.

In memorium

Clyde Irvin Sr. was the head custodian of the old Maugansville Elementary School for 27 years, retiring in 1992. He was well known for his generosity in helping people, even those he did not know. On Sept. 2, 2003, Clyde passed away. Many people today still remember Clyde's kindness and generosity. Clyde, you are sadly missed.
