Area roundup -- Reyes leads HCC to win

PURCELLVILLE, Va. -- Michael Reyes scored two goals to lead Hagerstown Community College to a 5-0 victory over Patrick Henry College on Thursday.

Joe Dumpe, Kris Pottera and Josh Edwards added a goal each for the Hawks (1-1), while Francesco Scotto Di Carlo, Chris Lambert and Alex Manea each had an assist.

Brian Kukucka had four saves in the shutout. HCC outshot Patrick Henry, 16-5.

York 2, Hood 1

FREDERICK, Md. -- Ali Jones scored two goals as York (Pa.) College topped Hood College in the teams' Capital Athletic Conference opener. The Spartans improved to 2-0 (1-0).

Jessica Devine scored the lone goal for the Blazers (1-1, 0-1), while Rachelle Buhrman had 12 saves.

Four aces recorded

On Thursday at Black Rock Golf Course, Joey Perchinec aced the 136-yard No. 2 hole with a 9-iron. It was his first hole in one. He was playing with Cory Moskowitz.

On Wednesday at Fountain Head Country Club, Tom Newell, of Hagerstown, aced the 16th hole from 143 yards. He was playing with Carl Galligan and John Erath.

Two golfers recorded aces recently at Whitetail Golf Resort.

On Aug. 31, Keith Moats, of Martinsburg, W.Va., aced the 150-yard No. 14 with a 4-hybrid. He was playing with Max Burnham and Tanya Burnham.

On Aug. 28, Ray Kearns, of Greencastle, Pa., aced the 150-yard No. 14 with a 6-iron. It was his third hole in one in the last two years at Whitetail. He was playing with Richard Shanor, Frank Bohle and Robert Serig.

Shepherd to hold softball clinics

Shepherd University coach Leslie Lopez and her staff will offer two softball clinics on Sept. 20 and Oct. 18 for players ages 8-12.

The clinics will be held at the Shepherd softball complex from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The clinic will focus on the proper techniques and fundamentals of softball.

Assistant coach Jessica Detrick will assist in the camp along with current Shepherd players.

Racewalking clinic at HCC

A six-week racewalking clinic will be held at the Hagerstown Community College outdoor track.

The clinic will be held Wednesdays from 10-11 a.m., beginning Sept. 9.
