Donald Dean Davis, 76, of 17803 Pin Oak Road in Hagerstown, Md., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

Born Wednesday, Dec. 7, 1932, in Fairplay, Md., he was the son of the late Harry R. Davis and the late Mary K. Miller Davis.

He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School and Shepherd College, and did his graduate work at Penn State University.

Don served in the U.S. Army with the Security Agency in Germany.

He was one of the original owners of the Frederick Glass Shop. He also was a teacher in Washington County Public Schools and was on the staff of the Outdoor School at Camp Misty Mount. He later became an insurance agent with State Farm Insurance, retiring after 20 years.


He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and the Alsatia Club. Don also supported the many volunteer activities of his wife.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret "Marge" R. Davis; one daughter, Leslie R. White of Richmond, Va.; one son, Matthew B. Davis and wife, M. Anneliese, of Hagerstown; two grandsons, Spencer D. White of Richmond and Tyler D. White of Richmond; one sister, Iris Belle Raymond of Hagerstown; and two brothers, D. Burton Davis of Lewisburg, Pa., and James M. Davis of Shepherdstown, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Lora E. Hammond, and three brothers, B. Glenn Davis, Warren M. Davis and H. Eugene Davis.

Memorial services will be Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Anne O. Weatherholt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church 18313 Lappans Road, Boonsboro, MD 21713.
