Arson charge dismissed

September 03, 2009|By DAVE McMILLION

The state has decided not to pursue a charge of giving false or misleading information against a man following an arson at a home at 20600 Jefferson Boulevard last October, according to Washington County District Court records.

The court file did not provide information about why the state decided not to pursue the charge against Ryan P. Blumenauer, 22.

The false or misleading information charge was related to an insurance claim made in the case, according to court records.

A charge of first-degree arson that had been filed against Blumenauer was dismissed in August, according to court records.

The charges stemmed from an Oct. 20, 2008, fire at Blumenauer's house on Jefferson Boulevard, according to court records.

A Maryland deputy state fire marshal said in court records he went into the home after the fire was extinguished and noticed an odor of what appeared to be fuel oil.

The fire marshal wrote in court papers he saw what appeared to be a burned recliner, and a wood floor around the chair was charred.

The fire marshal wrote that he determined there were two fires in the house, both of which he believed had been intentionally set.
