September 02, 2009

WILLIAMSPORT -- A 14-year-old boy was injured Wednesday when he fell about 30 feet down a cliff along the C&O Canal, according to a Williamsport Volunteer Fire Co. spokesman.

Rescue crews received the call at 1:15 p.m. and found the boy in the Big Slackwater area, according to Scott Bragunier, the fire company spokesman.

A private boat owner took rescue crews to the boy, who was hiking, and a Washington County Special Operations utility vehicle was used to get the boy to an ambulance, Bragunier said in a press release.

The boy had a knee injury and could not bend his leg, Bragunier said.

The boy was taken to Washington County Hospital with injuries that were not life threatening, according to the release.
