County, city announce road work

Washington County and the City of Hagerstown have provided the following information about road work.

Weather permitting, beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, work crews from Slurry Pavers Inc. will be installing a slurry seal surfacing treatment on portions of the following streets:

o East Washington Street (U.S. 40 to Richmond Street)

o Beechwood Drive (Glenwood Avenue to Fairview Road)

o Brinker Drive (East Wilson Boulevard south to the dead end)

One lane of each street at a time will be closed while the slurry seal is being applied. The contractor will use flaggers to keep traffic flowing in the other lane around the work area.

Motorists approaching the work areas might encounter cones, barricades, flaggers and other traffic-control devices. Delays are likely, and motorists are advised to use alternate routes around the work zone. The contractor anticipates the work will be completed by 5 p.m. Friday.

Rain or other adverse weather conditions might cause the work to be delayed or rescheduled.

Emergency vehicles will be able to pass through the work zones; however, dispatchers should be aware this work likely will cause traffic congestion and delays in the area.

The Washington County Division of Public Works said Crystal Falls Drive is scheduled to be closed to through traffic at Jugtown Road on or about Tuesday at 8 a.m.

The road closure is required for replacement of roadway drainage pipes on Crystal Falls Drive approximately one-tenth of a mile north of the intersection with Jugtown Road. The road closure will be in effect for about 45 days.

A detour will be posted to route traffic around the project.
